When he was 16 he was playing clubs and joined up with David Bryan who played with him in a ten-piece rhythm and blues band called Atlantic City Expressway.\u00a0 He also performed with bands like The Rest, The Lechers and Wild Ones.\u00a0 He is an actor as well as a singer and now heads up his own band.\u00a0 His nickname is Captain Kidd and his mother was one of the first Playboy bunnies.\u00a0 He once said \u201cSuccess is falling nine times and getting up ten.\u201d\u00a0 The man has won seven awards, is a record producer, has four children and two brothers, has acted in 15 films, wrote the music for Young Guns and has a string of hits to his name.<\/p>\n<p><b>I\u2019m talking about Jon Bon Jovi.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>He was born John Francis Bongiovi Jr. on 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0March 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to John Francis Bongiovi and Carol Sharkey.\u00a0 His father was of Slovak and Italian descent (from Sciacca in Sicily) and his mother was of German and Russian descent.\u00a0 He said that he is a blood relative of singer Frank Sinatra.\u00a0 Jon Bon Jovi was raised Catholic.\u00a0 His grandfather was a mortician; he owned Bongiovi funeral home in Raritan, New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Bon Jovi knew in his early teens that he wanted to be a rock star. \u00a0\u00a0In 1979, when he left school at 17, he worked in Tony Bongiovi\u2019s recording studio sweeping floors.\u00a0 In 1980, when Meco was there recording\u00a0<i>Christmas in the Stars: The Star Wars Christmas Album<\/i>, Tony recommended him for the song &#8220;<i>R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas<\/i>.&#8221; This was his first professional recording.<\/p>\n<p>In 1982, at the age of 20, he recorded his first single,\u00a0<i>Runaway<\/i>, at The Power Station.\u00a0 After he was turned down by many record companies, he was lucky to get the radio station WAPP 103.5FM &#8220;The Apple&#8221; in New York to play his song.\u00a0 This got him noticed and then he realised that he would have to form a proper band and not just have session players.\u00a0 At this point, he was still known as John Bongiovi.<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div class=\"avPlayerWrapper avVideo\">\n<div class=\"avPlayerContainer\">\n<div id=\"AVPlayerID_0_750589760b280fc1a393f0a559e4892d\" class=\"avPlayerBlock\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"JoomlaWorks AllVideos Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s86K-p089R8?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>In order to promote the single, he convinced Mercury\/Polygram Records to take him on and he got a recording contract in 1983.\u00a0 So that he could form his own band, he enlisted David Bryan who in turn called bassist Alec John Such and drummer Tico Torres.\u00a0 He also contacted his neighbour, Dave Sabo who later formed the group Skid Row (not the Irish Skid Row with Brush Shiels and Phil Lynott). \u00a0Sabo was eventually replaced by Richie Sambora.\u00a0 It was around this time that they came up with the name Bon Jovi.<\/p>\n<p>The band became popular for its power ballads, soaring guitar riffs, and well-crafted melodies.\u00a0 On 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0January 1984, they released their first album which went gold.\u00a0 It was around this time that Jon\u2019s cousin Tony apparently sued Jon and the band by claiming that he\u2019d been responsible for their creation and unique sound. The case was reportedly settled out of court in 1986.<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div class=\"avPlayerWrapper avVideo\">\n<div class=\"avPlayerContainer\">\n<div id=\"AVPlayerID_1_e4691e164d242a13141a87ba45cf8a0e\" class=\"avPlayerBlock\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"JoomlaWorks AllVideos Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lDK9QqIzhwk?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>In 1985, the band\u2019s second album\u00a0<i>7800 Fahrenheit<\/i>\u00a0was released and also gained a gold record sale status, but the critics weren\u2019t impressed.\u00a0 They wanted to aim higher.<\/p>\n<p>So they toured as opening acts for the Scorpions, Kiss and Judas Priest.\u00a0 This helped Bon Jovi build up a considerable fan base that appreciated the group&#8217;s rugged, soulful collection of songs about how tough it was to be a teenager.\u00a0 But it still wasn\u2019t enough.\u00a0 They had to aim even higher.\u00a0 But how to do it was the question?<\/p>\n<p>Jon\u2019s strategy was to enlist the help of professional songwriter Desmond Child to work on their sound for their next album,\u00a0<i>Slippery When Wet<\/i>. \u00a0The group wrote a total of 30 songs. \u00a0As a brand-new approach (the second part of the strategy) they auditioned the songs for local teenagers in New Jersey and New York to enable them to base the final running order of the album based on their opinions.<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div class=\"avPlayerWrapper avVideo\">\n<div class=\"avPlayerContainer\">\n<div id=\"AVPlayerID_2_e803da1790fd80c74cf583599dc47eb6\" class=\"avPlayerBlock\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"JoomlaWorks AllVideos Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KrZHPOeOxQQ?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>This album was released in 1986 and it became the huge hit they wanted.\u00a0\u00a0<i>Slippery When Wet<\/i>\u00a0sold nine million albums in the USA and 14 million around the world.\u00a0 This put it in the same league as Michael Jacksons\u00a0<i>Thriller<\/i>.\u00a0 Two songs in particular,\u00a0<i>You Give Love A Bad Name\u00a0<\/i>and<i>\u00a0Livin\u2019 On A Prayer<\/i>\u00a0hit the number one slot in the singles chart. They were now becoming worldwide musical superstars.\u00a0 This was the start of it and they were getting recognition.\u00a0 The world wanted more.<\/p>\n<p>Richie dated Cher for a while and Jon and Richie were asked to assist in producing Cher\u2019s \u2018comeback\u2019 album,\u00a0<i>Cher<\/i>. \u00a0He co-wrote and sang backing vocals on her single\u00a0<i>We All Sleep Alone<\/i>\u00a0and also produced several other tracks on the album. \u00a0Jon also co-produced Cher\u2019s best-selling multi-platinum album\u00a0<i>Heart of Stone<\/i>\u00a0in 1987.<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div class=\"avPlayerWrapper avVideo\">\n<div class=\"avPlayerContainer\">\n<div id=\"AVPlayerID_3_9fe6c54282a2f27f396b5337f6c1587f\" class=\"avPlayerBlock\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"JoomlaWorks AllVideos Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dUFZklIOFvg?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>In 1987, they had the\u00a0<i>Slippery When Wet Tour<\/i>. \u00a0Jon gave it his all during live shows and the tour&#8217;s exhausting schedule greatly strained his vocal cords. \u00a0His medical treatment put him on steroid shots to help him sing. \u00a0He also enlisted the help of a vocal coach, which helped him to continue the tour. Despite the band achieving massive success with\u00a0<i>Slippery When Wet<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>New Jersey<\/i>\u00a0(his fourth album that hit number 1 in 1988), living on the road almost destroyed the strong bond between the band members who at this stage were exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally. \u00a0\u00a0In 1990, after 232 shows on 5 continents each band member went their separate way, even departing in separate jets after the New Jersey Tour.<\/p>\n<p>In 1988, Jon started his acting career by appearing in\u00a0<i>The Return of Bruno<\/i>.<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div class=\"avPlayerWrapper avVideo\">\n<div class=\"avPlayerContainer\">\n<div id=\"AVPlayerID_4_942babdcf1d881ba1207ebed11b50297\" class=\"avPlayerBlock\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"JoomlaWorks AllVideos Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NvR60Wg9R7Q?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>In 1989, he married his high school sweetheart Dorothea Hurley, who was also a karate champion, and the couple remain married today, with four children, Stephanie Rose, Jesse James, Jacob Hurley and Romeo Jon.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, Jon recorded a soundtrack to the movie\u00a0<i>Young Guns II<\/i>\u00a0also known as\u00a0<i>Blaze of Glory<\/i>.\u00a0\u00a0 This came about because his friend Emilio Estevez asked him for &#8220;<i>Wanted Dead Or Alive&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0as the theme song for his upcoming sequel to Billy The Kid.\u00a0 Jon ended up composing a new theme song for the film&#8217;s soundtrack which became his first solo album. The album featured high profile guests such as Little Richard, Elton John and Jeff Beck. The title track, &#8220;<i>Blaze of Glory<\/i>&#8221; peaked at number one the Billboard Hot 100. \u00a0In 1991 &#8220;<i>Blaze of Glory<\/i>&#8221; won an award for Favorite Pop\/Rock Single at the American Music Awards and was also awarded a Golden Globe. The next thing I know, I win a Golden Globe, I&#8217;m nominated for an Oscar [for his song Blaze of Glory] and performing at the Academy Awards. I&#8217;m looking out at the audience and I go: &#8216;This doesn&#8217;t suck.&#8217; So I wanted to do it again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The band was now gone, so he started his own label Jambco Records which didn\u2019t do much.\u00a0 He began to lose heart in the music business and took time out by doing a two week cross country tour across the US on a motorbike.<\/p>\n<p>But the band wasn\u2019t fully gone. They recorded\u00a0<i>Keep the Faith<\/i>\u00a0(Number Five, 1992), which produced hit singles in the title track (Number 27, 1993) and &#8220;<i>Bed of Roses<\/i>&#8221; (Number 10, 1993). Another hit, &#8220;<i>Always<\/i>&#8221; (Number Four, 1994), emerged from Bon Jovi&#8217;s 1994 anthology,\u00a0<i>Cross Road<\/i>\u00a0(Number Eight).\u00a0 In 1995 the band released\u00a0<i>These Days<\/i>\u00a0(Number Nine). The collection featured two new songs,\u00a0<i>Always<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>These Days<\/i>\u00a0which both were successful single releases, most notably throughout Europe and in Britain than the US.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Bon Jovi has also acted in such films as\u00a0<i>The Leading Man<\/i>\u00a0and was a recurring character on TV&#8217;s\u00a0<i>Ally McBeal<\/i>\u00a0(stepping in for Robert Downey Jr who was arrested on drugs charges) and also acted in\u00a0<i>Sex and the City<\/i>. \u00a0\u00a0He took a role in the 1995 film\u00a0<i>Moonlight and Valentino<\/i>, and continued acting throughout the Nineties, appearing in Ed Burns&#8217;\u00a0<i>No Looking Back<\/i>\u00a0and the World War II submarine adventure\u00a0<i>U-571<\/i>.<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div class=\"avPlayerWrapper avVideo\">\n<div class=\"avPlayerContainer\">\n<div id=\"AVPlayerID_7_f95bc636e9f8fce8416c4c84dc5ef04b\" class=\"avPlayerBlock\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"JoomlaWorks AllVideos Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SRvCvsRp5ho?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>In 1997 he released his first official non-soundtrack solo album,\u00a0<i>Destination Anywhere<\/i>\u00a0(Number 31, 1997). \u00a0A short movie of the same name was recorded around the record&#8217;s release, based entirely on the songs from the record and starring Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon and Whoopi Goldberg.<\/p>\n<p>The band regrouped in 1999 and recorded\u00a0<i>Real Life.<\/i>\u00a0In 2000, they released their seventh studio album,\u00a0<i>Crush<\/i>. The lead single, &#8220;<i>It&#8217;s My Life<\/i>&#8221; helped introduce the band to a new, younger fan base. Demand for Bon Jovi&#8217;s old-style pop-metal turned out to be so big that, since the reunion, the band has gone on to release more successful albums than it did even during its pin-up prime.\u00a0<i>Crush<\/i>\u00a0went double platinum in the U.S. and sold 8 million copies worldwide. After a successful tour, Bon Jovi returned with\u00a0<i>Bounce<\/i>\u00a0(Number Two, 2002).<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div first country crossover hit, &#8220;<i>Who Says You Can&#8217;t Go Home<\/i>&#8221; (Number One Hot Country, 2005; Number 23 pop, 2006).<\/p>\n<p>After releasing a live disc and comprehensive greatest-hits package in 2006, Bon Jovi&#8217;s next album of new material,\u00a0<i>Lost Highway<\/i>\u00a0(Number One, 2007), was marketed more directly to the country audience, with country-charting singles\u00a0<i>&#8220;(You Want to) Make a Memory<\/i>&#8221; (Number 27 pop, Number 35 Hot Country, 2007) and &#8220;<i>Till We Ain&#8217;t Strangers Anymore<\/i>&#8221; (Number 47 Hot Country, Number One on\u00a0<i>Billboard<\/i>\u00a0in November 2009, five months after Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora&#8217;s induction into the Songwriter&#8217;s Hall Of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>Bon Jovi will be playing in Slane on 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0June 2013 to 80,000 fans priced from \u20ac79.50.\u00a0 Jon said \u201cThis was always the goal, to play Slane.\u201d They will be in the middle of their
