Below is a list of\u00a0all Christmas number ones from 1945 to date.\u00a0That’s 68 years.\u00a0 Who was number one the year you were born?\u00a0 Can you even remember them?<\/strong>\u00a0Have a look at the videos and bring yourself back into time.\u00a0\u00a0Do you know<\/strong>\u00a0who was at number one for the longest time?<\/strong>\u00a0I was surprised to see it was\u00a0Whitney Houston<\/a>.\u00a0 You may remember\u00a0we wrote her biography<\/a>\u00a0and also discussed\u00a0what she was worth<\/a>\u00a0some time ago.\u00a0 Surprise someone you know and give them their song.\u00a0 If some of your family is less than 68 years old, you can show them the video.<\/p>\n

As I write this on Friday 21st<\/sup>\u00a0December, we don\u2019t know yet which song is going to be number one for 2012.\u00a0 So far, it\u2019s a toss up between James Arthur\u2019s Impossible (Simon Cowel\u2019s X Factor winner) and the Hillsborough tribute, The Justice Collective\u2019s He Ain\u2019t Heavy, He\u2019s My Brother.\u00a0 As of Tuesday last, James\u2019s song had sold nearly 76,000 copies this week, and was just over 3,000 copies ahead of\u00a0The Justice Collective<\/strong>\u2019s cover of\u00a0The Hollies<\/strong>‘ 1969 classic.\u00a0 Yesterday, The Justice Collective was barely ahead.\u00a0 And yesterday morning, The Justice Collective was 14,000 ahead. This morning it was 23,000 ahead.<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0Irish Recorded Music Association \u2018Impossible\u2019 beat \u2018Tiny Dancer \u2013 A Song for Lily Mae\u2019 into the number two spot, although it does have the honour of being the best selling number two single in Ireland ever.<\/p>\n

Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot said, “This really is the closest No.1 battle we can remember – even closer than the legendary 2009 battle between Rage Against the Machine and Joe McElderry. The poll concludes at midnight on Saturday night (December 22nd), so there is a long way to go yet – but this one looks like it\u2019s going down to the wire.”<\/p>\n

Both artists are donating their proceeds to charity with\u00a0James\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0single raising money for children\u2019s charity\u00a0Together For Short Lives<\/strong>, and\u00a0The Justice Collective<\/strong>\u00a0are raising money for the ongoing legal costs of the families of the\u00a0Hillsborough tragedy<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the same time, don\u2019t forget about our little\u00a0<\/strong>Lily-Mae whom we wrote about last week<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in which her parents are trying to raise \u20ac1 million and to bring their song, Tiny Dancer, to number one.\u00a0 This is supported by the Rocket Man himself, Elton John.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been getting more responses on popular Christmas songs.\u00a0 Again, thank you to everyone around the world.<\/p>\n

Linden in Newcastle went to lot of trouble and gave me her choice of the 5 best, 5 she can\u2019t stand and 5 drunk songs. Some have been mentioned already, so I\u2019m going to pick one of each for this article and I\u2019ll keep the rest for next year.\u00a0 Zat You Santa Clause is one not mentioned yet & I think it\u2019s a great fun song.\u00a0 I love it.\u00a0 She doesn\u2019t like Mull of Kintyre by Wings, even though it was the 1977 number one.\u00a0 Have a look at the chart below.\u00a0 Paul McCartney wrote this song in tribute to the picturesque Kintyre peninsula in Scotland, where Paul owned High Park Farm since 1966, and its headland, the Mull of Kintyre. Linden also doesn\u2019t like I Wish it could be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard.<\/p>\n
