LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network with more than 135 million members worldwide, has just released the most overused words and phrases in members\u2019 LinkedIn Profiles for 2011.<\/p>\n

Interestingly the number one most overused buzzword in LinkedIn Profiles, (the place where members\u2019 list their professional skills and achievements), globally was \u201ccreative\u201d and for Irish professionals the word is \u201cMotivated\u201d. Below is LinkedIn\u2019s 2011 list of the top 10 terms that are overused by professionals in Ireland:<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Track Record<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Creative<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Effective<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Innovative<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Extensive experience<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wide range<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Communication skills<\/p>\n

\u201cCompetition for opportunities can be fierce, so craft your LinkedIn Profile to stand out from the professional pack,\u201d said Nicole Williams, LinkedIn\u2019s Connection Director and best-selling author of the book, \u2018Girl on Top\u2019. \u201cYou should aim to banish buzzwords from your profile and resume. Use language that illustrates your unique professional accomplishments and experiences. Give concrete examples of results you\u2019ve achieved whenever possible and reference attributes that are specific to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2010 LinkedIn\u2019s study showed that buzzwords like \u201cextensive experience,\u201d \u201cdynamic,\u201d \u201cmotivated\u201d and \u201cinnovative\u201d ranked as the most overused buzzwords in various countries. Its global membership has grown from 85 million to nearly 135 million members since 2010 so that buzzword list has changed. Here are the 2011 number one buzzwords for countries that LinkedIn fielded the study in:<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dynamic: France<\/p>\n

Recommendations on LinkedIn give those viewing your profile a sense of who you are as a professional so request as many \u2018Recommendations\u2019 as you can. Oh, and don\u2019t worry to hint at why you’re asking for the recommendation or the type of recommendation you\u2019d like.<\/p>\n

Accentuate your profile<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finally, always make sure your LinkedIn Profile is complete and includes all the roles you have had. Also, add a profile photo \u2013 people never forget a face.<\/p>\n
